FRAMO is an automaker in the Weimar Republic, the Third Reich, and then in the GDR, producing light truckloads and vans. Initially, the factory FRAMO produced units and assemblies for motorcycles brand DKW. However, by the 1930s the factory had already offered a whole range of three-wheeled trucks, and since 1933, the new plant in Hainichen had mastered the production of the four-wheel light trucks FRAMO, which were constantly improving from model to model. After the Second World War, the FRAMO plant found itself in the Soviet zone of occupation of Germany, and later in the GDR. He was nationalized and included in the state association IFA. The plant continued to manufacture its products. The brand FRAMO existed until 1957 when the company was renamed VEB Barkas-Werke. The plant continued to produce cars under the brand name Barkas and new production facilities in Karl-Marx-Stadt.
